Powerlifting vs. Bodybuilding vs. Hybrid Training: Which Program Is Right for You?

These three get lumped together as "strength training," but the programming behind each is genuinely different. Here's how I'd think about which one fits you.
Powerlifting: chasing a bigger total
Powerlifting programming is built around three lifts — squat, bench, and deadlift — and getting stronger at exactly those movements under competition rules. If your goal is a number on a platform, this is the most direct path.
Bodybuilding: building a physique
Bodybuilding programming prioritizes muscle growth and symmetry over raw strength numbers. Volume, exercise selection, and nutrition are built around how your body looks, not just what you can lift.
Hybrid training: strength and conditioning together
Hybrid training balances strength work with conditioning — useful if you want to be strong and also perform well outside the gym, whether that's a sport, a physically demanding job, or just not being wrecked after a hike.
If you're not sure which one fits
Most people who apply don't have this fully figured out, and that's fine — we talk it through on the first call and I build the program around your actual goal, not a label.
